Getting involved
"For it is the loss of faith in our personal power that drives the woes of the world."
Doris "Granny D" Haddock
Get involved - we can use all the time and energy you're willing to give.
We're all volunteers here. We'll be successful to the extent we invest our energies and share our expertise. Your enthusiasm and skills can be matched to a variety of interesting and rewarding activities. Those activities need not be dramatic or all-consuming.
Get involved at a comfortable level and gradually extend your activities. How? First and foremost, contact us so you can do the following and more:
>> Join us at monthly meetings of the Linn County Democrats. Organize with others interested in effectively addressing local and long-range issues. (Meeting schedule) Volunteer activities range from researching alone at home to walking your precinct and meeting neighborhood voters.
>> Become a Precinct Committee Person. PCP's are representatives of the county central committee in the local precincts. For more on PCPs, click here.
>> Get informed. Start by browsing this web site. It is full of web links for background issues and current resources on issues important to Democrats and all Americans. Contact information is provided for you to make your opinions known to your local, state and federal government representatives.
>> Participate by attending community meetings of local district boards (school, fire, water control, soil and water conservation, etc). Attend meetings of your city council the schedules for which can be found in local newspapers or on this site.
>> Attend meetings of the Linn County Board of Commissioners in the County Courthouse in Albany. Meetings are generally every Tuesday and Wednesday mornings. Meeting agendas can be found here
>> Volunteer for a variety of public service positions. School districts (SD links needed) operate with the help of various committees comprised partly of non-specialist volunteers. The county needs volunteers on a several boards, commissions and committees.
