Oregon House, District 17

Dan Thackaberry

Democratic Party candidate for the Oregon House.

Thackaberry provided the following response to questions posed by the Linn County Democrats Campaign Committee:

I’m running because I genuinely care about people and want to do good things on their behalf.

The top three issues that are most critical are:

  • More funding for education, both K-12 and our community colleges.
  • Economic Development
  • Fighting the Meth epidemic with better enforcement and effective drug treatment programs.

Solving the problems I’ve outlined requires funding. That is precisely why economic development is so important. It will keep our economy robust, and a thriving economy will provide the revenues to fund the programs. Education is key. Educate Oregon children and you create a viable and competitive work force. A world class education system is the spring board from which all the issues can be improved.

I’m a good fit for this district. My lifelong experience in farming and my extensive experience in city and county level government makes me a bridge between the urban and rural communities. I have shown the ability to lead and to work effectively with people of different backgrounds; a skill that is requisite for the Oregon Legislature.

With me, you will get a legislator that will work for you. Someone who will be accessible and with whom you can have a real relationship. I will always put the needs of my district above those of partisan politics.
